The popularity of former Union Minister Uma Bharti, once one of the firebrand leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has dwindled in the last few days. Looking at the recent political activism, his influence in the party has diminished. Uma Bharti, who was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, is in the headlines these days for her demand for prohibition.
In fact, on March 13, Uma Bharti vandalized a liquor shop located in Azad Nagar, Bhopal. He also mentioned this on his Twitter. Uma Bharti warned the local administration that the liquor shop should be closed within a week. Uma Bharti has once again come into the limelight regarding this. It is believed that the former Union Minister wants to attract the attention of the party leadership through this issue of his protest.
In fact, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP gave ticket to Sadhvi Pragya in place of Uma Bharti from Bhopal and she won. Since then, she is seen doing all kinds of activities to get out of the way Uma Bharti party got side lines.
Significantly, on March 13, Uma Bharti along with her supporters reached the liquor shop and tried to vandalize it. A few days later, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan met him and assured the cooperation of the BJP government in his public awareness campaign against alcohol.
Uma Bharti has been demanding prohibition of liquor in Madhya Pradesh since last year. The sabotage action taken by him is creating troubles for CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In fact, liquor trade has been a major source of revenue in Madhya Pradesh. A debt-ridden state of over Rs 3.37 lakh crore, especially between the implementation of GST and the two waves of the corona pandemic, earned over Rs 1,183 crore from the tax levied on liquor in 2020-21.
But the state fears a loss in revenue due to Uma Bharti’s continued demand for prohibition. In such a situation, Shivraj Singh Chauhan also came to meet Uma Bharti and assured cooperation. On the other hand, senior BJP leaders have said that Uma Bharti has nothing to do with the state unit, but it is a signal to the central party leadership.
Let us tell you that Uma Bharti has often been targeting her own party on many issues in Madhya Pradesh. These include women security, OBC quota and other issues.
