New Delhi. India’s Under-19 team could not win the match against Australia in the ICC World Cup final. The team had a chance to win the title for the second consecutive time but it could not happen due to poor batting. Under the captaincy of Uday Saharan, the team made it to the finals by winning all the matches consecutively but Australia broke its dream of winning the title.
In the ICC Under-19 World Cup final, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. On the basis of Harjas Singh’s half-century innings, the team had scored 253 runs for 7 wickets. While chasing the target, the entire Indian team could reach only 174 runs. For Australia, Mahali Beardman and Rafe McMillan took three wickets each while Callum Vidler took two wickets. It was the result of the sharp bowling of these three that India came on the backfoot in this match. The team could not recover after losing the initial wicket. Australia became champion for the fourth time by winning the match by a huge margin of 79 runs.
After the match, the Indian captain said, “I am proud of the players of my team, they played really well. Everyone showed tremendous fighting spirit during the entire tournament. Today we showed some haste in playing shots, did not spend time on the field. We had made preparations but could not implement the plan well.”
“We got to learn a lot from this tournament, learned a lot from the sports staff and got a chance to learn a lot during the match as well. We will continue to learn like this and will try to do better in the future.”
