Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday said the state government has set a target of launching more than 15,000 startups in technology and creating two lakh jobs in the next five years. The Chief Minister said this at the inauguration of the third edition of ‘Huddle Global 2022’ organized by the Kerala Startup Mission. Huddle Global 2022 provides a platform for startups to showcase their products and interact with the industry and their leaders in the technology space.
Vijayan said the state government plans to augment the facilities to set up an emerging technology startup hub in the capital Kochi and we are committed to it. He claimed that our startups have raised Rs 3,200 crore as equity investment since 2015.
How is Kerala becoming a technology startup hub?
Kerala is among the top states in the Startup India ranking for a better environment to start startups. The Chief Minister of Kerala claims that various initiatives of the government like Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centers for Colleges, Young Innovators Programme, Corporate Innovation have made Kerala a preferred destination to start and grow technology enterprises. At the same time, Industry and Law Minister P Rajeev says that Kerala has created a unique model from startup idea to practicality.
Plans to run programs like ‘Innovation Challenge’

Through this, the state government wants to connect Kerala startups on a large scale to the international level.
Chief Minister Vijayan inaugurated a ‘Digital Hub’ with a capacity to support 200 start-ups on 19 September 2021. This digital hub is spread over two lakh square feet. The purpose of which is to promote technology. This is considered a significant step in the IT industry of Kerala.
The state government has planned to organize programs like ‘Innovation Challenge’ for the youth to prove their mettle. The winners will get government assistance in marketing their product. Plans are also underway to develop a knowledge chain linking technical education institutions with startups and IT parks and create a data park.
The same scheme is being implemented in Thiruvananthapuram on the lines of development of startup infrastructure in Kochi to promote innovation in technology. Work is also underway on the project to make Thiruvananthapuram an artificial intelligence hub. This project will be implemented with the help of technical and digital universities.
