Tokyo, July 30 (IANS)| Indian women’s boxer Lovlina Bogorhain, who has made it to the semi-finals, says she wants to bring a gold medal for the country. Lovlina defeated Nan Chin Chen of Taiwan 4-1 to secure at least a bronze medal for the country by making it to the semi-finals of the 69kg category at the Tokyo Olympics.
In the post-bout virtual press briefing by Lovlina, I don’t want to stop at the bronze medal. I want to bring gold medal for the country. There is only one medal, that is gold. For this, I have to prepare for the semi-final match. Regarding her next match, Lovlina said, I have not made any strategy at the moment. I have seen some videos of my opponent but I have to devise some strategy only after watching them.
Regarding the match against Chin Chen, he said, “The challenge for me was how to prove myself. I didn’t think that I have to prove to others but I wanted to prove to myself that this is my chance. I didn’t have any strategy for this match. I really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun playing it. Lovlina said, my target is to get the gold medal and I will prepare for that. But before that I have to handicap the semi-finals.
She said, “I was not fearless earlier and was very scared in the beginning. But since I started believing in myself and stopped thinking what people would say about me, I became fearless. Lovlina said, due to Corona, I missed some tournaments and due to this the competitions were also decreasing. I had corona, due to which I missed a tournament. I thought at that time that if the fight is not happening then how should I prepare.
But everything turned out well because of my coach and everyone’s support. She said that she is a big fan of Muhammad Ali and follows some of his tricks. Lovlina also said that six-time world champion and 2012 London Olympics bronze medalist MC Mary Kom is her inspiration. Lovlina will face Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli in the semi-finals on August 4.
