Lucknow. Four candidates filed their nomination papers on Friday for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, voting for which will be held on April 19. A senior election officer gave this information.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said on Friday that four candidates from different parties filed nominations on Friday, the third day after the notification was issued.
He said that under the first phase in Uttar Pradesh, voting will be held for eight Lok Sabha constituencies. He told that Chandrashekhar of Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and Manoj Kumar of Samajwadi Party filed nomination for Nagina (reserved) Lok Sabha seat among these eight seats on Friday.
He said that similarly, Har Kishore Singh of ‘Socialist Unity Center of India (Communist)’ filed nomination for Moradabad Lok Sabha seat and Sanjay Kumar Bharti of Rashtriya Samaj Dal (R) filed nomination for Pilibhit Lok Sabha seat.
Earlier, in the statement issued by the election office, Sanjay Kumar Bharti from Rashtriya Samaj Dal (R) was named as the candidate for Rampur Lok Sabha seat. Later it was amended by the office and changed to Pilibhit.
Thus far, a total of four candidates from different parties have filed nominations in the first phase.
Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad had established Bhim Army in 2014.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party’s chief spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary told PTI, “Samajwadi Party has no electoral pact with Azad Samaj Party (Chandrashekhar) in this Lok Sabha election.”
In January 2022, before the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Azad Samaj Party chief Chandrashekhar had said that he was not going with them (SP). Then he had said, “Now, even if they offer us 100 seats, we will not compromise with them because it is a matter of self-respect.”
Rinwa said that according to the election schedule, the last date for filing nominations for the eight Lok Sabha seats of the first phase in the state is March 27. He informed that the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on March 28 and March 30 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations. He told that the first phase of voting will be held on April 19.
According to the election schedule, notification was issued on Wednesday for eight parliamentary seats of the state – Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina, Moradabad, Rampur and Pilibhit – in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.
Counting of votes for all the constituencies of Uttar Pradesh will be done on June 4 and the election process will be completed before June 6.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) contested together. This time BSP has announced to contest the elections alone while SP has formed an alliance with Congress and both the parties are part of the opposition alliance ‘India’. RLD has joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance.
Rinwa said that there are 1.43 crore voters in the eight Lok Sabha constituencies of the first phase, of which 76.23 lakh are men, 67.14 lakh are women and 824 are of the third gender. There are a total of 7693 polling stations in these constituencies.
