Mahashivratri 2022: Khandwa. Devotees queued up for darshan in the Shiva temples of the city on Mahashivratri since morning. Devotees performed Jalabhishek along with darshan of Lord Shiva with the cheers of Bol Bam. The largest crowd remained in the ancient Shiva temples of the city. The faith of the devotees was being built on seeing the Shiva temple located at Rameshwar Amrakunj. Some worshiped the Shivling by offering bilva leaves and some by anointing it with milk. It is believed that the Shivling located at Rameshwar Kunj was established by Lord Shri Ram during his exile. Here, when Mother Sita was thirsty, Lord Shri Ram made a stream of water flow by shooting an arrow into the ground.
Devotees queue for darshan in ancient Bhimkund
Due to the mythological and historical importance of the region, a large number of devotees come here every year on Mahashivratri. On Tuesday, a fair-like view was seen in the temple premises. Apart from Rameshwar Kund, devotees also reached to see the Shivling established on three other ancient kunds of the city. There was a long queue at the ancient Bhimkund for the darshan of the Shivling established in the womb. Falahari Prasad was distributed to the devotees here.
Devotees arriving for darshan in Mahadev Garh
It is believed that the establishment of Shivling in Bhimkund dates back to the Mahabharata period. When the Pandavas stayed here, Bhima worshiped while establishing the Shivling. Similarly, devotees came in large numbers to visit Mahadev Garh in Itwara, where the special decoration of Shivling was the center of attraction for the devotees. Here, there was a crowd of devotees to see the ancient Shivling located at Surajkund and Padam Kund.
