Atlanta Russian footballer Alexei Miranchuk kept his head down and celebrated the goal after scoring the last goal in a 4-0 win over Sampdoria in Serie A football. Russia’s national team has been barred from participating in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Russia seems to be isolated in the sports world due to the attack on Ukraine. Russian players, however, have been registering their protest against War in different ways from time to time.
Miranchuk had scored brilliantly, hitting four defenders, but immediately after scoring, he raised his hand to indicate that he would not celebrate. Miranchuk is a friend of Atlanta teammate Ruslan Malinovsky of Ukraine. Ruslan took off his jersey after scoring a goal in the Europa League match against Olympiakos on Thursday and his t-shirt read ‘No war in Ukraine’
