New Delhi. Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday released its manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In its manifesto, TMC has promised to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and stop the process of National Register of Citizens (NRC) if the government is formed at the Centre. TMC has also promised not to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The manifesto was released two days before the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, which will be held on April 19 in Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri districts of West Bengal.
Releasing the manifesto, the party’s national spokesperson Derek O’Brien said that Mamata Banerjee has made 10 promises to the people of the country. He stressed that CAA will not be implemented in Bengal and neither NRC nor UCC will be allowed. He said that if Trinamool Congress becomes a part of the India Bloc and forms the government at the Centre, then these promises will be fulfilled. With the support of Mamata Banerjee, the daily wage will be increased to Rs 400 under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). The party also plans to provide permanent housing to all.
According to the TMC manifesto, if the India Bloc government is formed at the Centre, all Below Poverty Line (BPL) families will get 10 free LPG cylinders per year. Duare Ration Scheme will be implemented at the national level, in which every ration card holder will be given 5 kg free ration per month at their place of residence. Senior citizens aged 60 years and above will get a monthly pension of Rs 1,000. Lakshmi Bhandar Yojana will be implemented at the national level, providing a fixed monthly amount to women. All citizens will get health insurance coverage up to Rs 10 lakh.
Other promises made in the TMC manifesto include
- To provide one year apprenticeship (training in any field) with monthly stipend to all graduates and diploma holders up to the age of 25 years.
- Student credit card offering up to Rs 10 lakh for students pursuing higher education.
- Triple the scholarship amount for SC, ST and OBC students pursuing higher education.
- Fixing the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders at such a level that the common people can be saved from hardships. A Price Stabilization Fund will be set up to manage price fluctuations.
- To provide a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Indian farmers, which will be at least 50% more than the cost of production for all crops, as per the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission.
- To ensure that all job card holders get 100 days of work and minimum daily wage of Rs 400 under MNREGA.
- To provide decent housing to every poor family across the country to ensure safe housing for all.
