Efforts are being made to extinguish the fire with 1200 firefighters, out of the fire spread over 7000 hectares, 10 thousand people were safely evacuated
Paris, August 19 (IANS)| A massive wildfire has killed two people and nearly 10,000 people have been evacuated in the southern tourist region of Var in France. “Unfortunately the number has gone up. Today 24 are injured, including 5 firefighters. They have minor injuries and we apologize for the deaths of two,” VAR’s prefect Evans Richard said at a news conference on Wednesday.
He said that it was difficult to take action because of the wind which was constantly changing. About 1,200 firefighters are still struggling, which has failed over 7,000 hectares.
Around 10,000 people have been evacuated. A total of 14 reception centers were set up in seven municipalities in the region.
The eighth campsite has been evacuated by Wednesday afternoon. This region of the Mediterranean has been battling hot temperatures this summer as well as raging wildfires. Major fires have already broken out in parts of Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain and Algeria.
