Relief in Dominica case – The Dominican government has dropped all charges of illegal entry against fugitive Mehul Choksi. Choksi, a key accused in the Rs 13,000-crore Punjab National Bank loan fraud case, was arrested by Dominican authorities on May 24 last year on charges of illegal entry into the country.
Choksi fled India from January 2018 and was living in Antigua. On May 23 last year, Choksi suddenly went missing from Antigua and was mysteriously caught in Dominica. There he had sought bail citing poor health, then he was seen on a wheelchair, then his health was not looking that down, but this time Choksi’s health is not feeling well.

Was granted bail- In July last year, after getting bail on medical grounds from the Dominica High Court, he went back to Antigua. Choksi was asked by the High Court to come back to Dominica after treatment, a source close to the family had then said- “He is very unwell. His treatment may take a long time.”
After Choksi’s arrest in Dominica, a private jet carrying CBI and Foreign Ministry officials went to Dominica. To bring Choksi back to India. However, after the case against Choksi went to court on the ground of illegal entry, he had to return.
Choksi has alleged that he was kidnapped from Antigua’s Jolly Harbor on May 23 and brought to Dominica on a boat by policemen who looked like Antigua and India. He himself had not come to Dominica. Choksi has been blaming India for the Dominica case. Choksi has been living in Antigua since 2018 as a citizen.
What is the whole matter- Choksi and his nephew, Nirav Modi are accused of scamming officials to the tune of Rs 13,500 crore using Letter of Undertaking (LoU) and Foreign Letter of Credit (FLC) by bribing officials. By the time this matter came to know and the case was registered, both the uncle-nephew fled from India. Nirav Modi in Britain and Choksi in Antigua. India is engaged in the extradition efforts of both.
