The number of people seeking refuge in this north-eastern state has increased in recent days due to the resumption of conflict in Myanmar. The Chief Minister said that these people are being provided humanitarian aid by the State Government, NGOs, Churches and student units and organizations like food, shelter etc.
The Chief Minister said that the State Government has requested the Central Government to help these displaced people but it is not possible for the Center to do so directly. Because India is not a signatory to the United Nations Convention on Refugees. The central government will cooperate with us and in return we will help the citizens of Myanmar.
Rs 380 lakh released so far for help
He said that the state government is making efforts to ensure that these citizens of Myanmar do not face problems. At the same time, State Home Minister Lalchhamliana told the assembly that the state has so far released an amount of Rs 380 lakh to provide assistance to these displaced citizens of Myanmar.
In a written reply to a question, the Home Minister said that this amount is being used for construction of relief camps, for arranging food, for drinking water and clothes, for providing electricity, for medical help. . These people have taken shelter in all the 11 districts of the state. Their number is highest at 8381 in Siaha district.
The State Home Minister said that a total of 143 relief camps have been constructed so far. Of the total 24,289 refugees, 9033 have been shifted to relief camps. At the same time, Bari is living in 15,256 other places. He said that according to the government figures, the number of displaced citizens of Myanmar taking refuge in Aizawl district is 499.
