Today is the birthday of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mulayam Singh Yadav is counted among the veteran leaders, but today he is seen away from both the media and politics because of his son. The SP founder became weak because of his family and even today he cannot resolve the dispute between his brother and son. Akhilesh’s decision to go to the polls with the Congress in the year 2017 weakened the party along with the Yadav family. Many big leaders in the party did not like this decision. The reason has also been Akhilesh Yadav’s arbitrariness. Now we will tell you today that the history of SP has been bitter with the Congress about which Akhilesh Yadav appears soft. There were many occasions when differences were seen between the SP and the Congress, but there were many occasions when Mulayam Singh Yadav used to take a step forward to answer every move of the Congress.
In 1967, when Congress made fun of it, replied with victory
Mulayam Singh Yadav always considered the Akhara to be his workplace. However, he was associated with Ram Manohar Lohia’s movement and considered him as his political guru. At that time, when Nathusingh of the Socialist Party, MLA from Jaswant Nagar, caught sight of him, he was very impressed with Mulayam Singh Yadav. After this he had announced the name of Mulayam Singh Yadav to contest from this seat. In this election, Congress candidate Lakhan Singh Yadav, Advocate stood in front of Mulayam Singh Yadav. Congress leaders at that time taunted and made fun of him by calling him ‘Kal Ka Chhora’. In the election results, Mulayam Singh Yadav won a unilateral victory and stopped speaking of Congress. After that he never looked back. After this Mulayam Singh Yadav won from this seat many times.
In 1990, water was thrown on the trick of Congress.
In 1989, VP Singh’s government was formed at the Center and Mulayam Singh Yadav in UP. Within a year, the government of VP Singh fell and with the help of Congress, the government of Chandrashekhar was formed. At that time Mulayam Singh Yadav also left VP Singh and supported Chandrashekhar. In such a situation, by supporting Mulayam Singh in 1990, Congress saved his government from falling. However, Chandrashekhar’s government could not last even for 4 months. He resigned from the Center after clashes with the Congress. What was left of Chandrashekhar, Congress also planned to withdraw support in the state. Mulayam Singh Yadav came to know about this a day earlier.
The very next morning, Mulayam Singh Yadav approached the then Governor B Satyanarayana Reddy and tendered his resignation. Then the then Governor accepted the resignation and asked him to remain the caretaker Chief Minister till further arrangements were made.
Due to this move of Mulayam Singh, the strategy of the Congress was left to the ground.
1999 when Congress could not form government
LK Advani has also mentioned in his autobiography how the Congress failed to form the government in 1999. In fact, in 1996, HD Deve Gowda got the Prime Minister’s post as a representative of the United Front government. Mulayam Singh Yadav was made the Defense Minister in Deve Gowda’s government, but this government also did not last long. After this, the name of Mulayam Singh Yadav came up for the post of Prime Minister, but the Yadav leaders did not give their support to him.
H. D. Deve Gowda also highlighted this and said that “Mulayam Singh Yadav’s name cropped up, but two other Yadav leaders withdrew their hands. Lalu and Sharad Yadav refused to stand in the second row in front of the other Yadav.” After this, IK Gujral became the Prime Minister of the country in 1997. But this government too soon fell. Lok Sabha elections were held again in the year 1999 and Congress expected that Mulayam Singh Yadav would support, but Congress failed to form the government due to lack of assurance of his support. Then NDA formed its government.
Congress did not support in 2002
In 2002, the term of the then President KR Narayanan was coming to an end. The UPA wanted to put its candidate on the post of President, whereas the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not have the majority to make the President of his choice. Then the Samajwadi Party proposed the name of APJ Abdul Kalam for the post of President and the NDA government gave its support to this proposal. This decision put the Congress in such a difficult position that it too was forced to extend its support.
However, there is also a fact that Mulayam Singh Yadav avoided getting the tag of being close to ‘BJP’, while it is famous in the political circles that his personal relationship with Atal Bihari Vajpayee was very cordial. In the year 2003, he formed his government in the state with the indirect support of the BJP. Apart from this, at the beginning of the 2015 assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party was with the Grand Alliance, but contested after breaking away from the Grand Alliance after differences over seat-sharing. Although the Grand Alliance was successful in forming the government, but this government could not last long.
The story of differences with the Congress is years old with the SP, but under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, the tension between the SP-Congress subsided. In the year 2017, they were seen together in the Uttar Pradesh elections.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was very angry with this move of Akhilesh Yadav. Akhilesh Yadav did not agree to this and removed his father’s name from the party office in Lucknow and put his name. After this, Akhilesh Yadav, who stood against his father over the party symbol, won here too. Mulayam Singh Yadav was deeply hurt by these incidents. Despite so many efforts in the 2017 assembly elections, the SP led by Akhilesh Yadav was defeated. Mulayam Singh Yadav had blamed the Congress for this defeat.
After this Shivpal Singh Yadav formed his new party, but Mulayam Singh Yadav, accepting defeat at the hands of his son, was often seen standing in the election campaign for his son. From this it became clear that the son’s attachment to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s political life was overshadowed.
