In Uppinangadi here, 231 Muslim students refused to appear in the Government PU College examinations. It is reported that on Friday, the college had told some girl students that they could not appear in the examination wearing hijab. After this, the students performed fiercely in the campus.
According to media reports, the college had cited the order of the High Court. The Deputy Director of PU Education said that anyone who violates the order of the court will not be able to appear in the examination. On Tuesday, the High Court had upheld the state government’s order on educational institutions. The court had dismissed the petition of 6 girl students who stood against the hijab ban.

The Kannada exam was held at Uppinangadi, 50 km from Mangaluru. Some Muslim women came here wearing hijab and the college did not allow them to sit for the examination. Due to this tension started in the campus and around 250 people started protesting here. Men were also among those who demonstrated and were demanding to allow women to sit in the examination wearing hijab.
It is reported that Muslim leaders of the area also tried to convince the students, but many Muslim students returned without appearing in the examination.
Supreme Court ready to hear petitions
The Supreme Court has agreed on Wednesday to hear the petitions challenging the decision of the Karnataka High Court. It is reported that these petitions will be heard after the Holi holiday. A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Raman took note of the submission of advocate Sanjay Hegde, appearing for the students, that the matter required urgent hearing due to the upcoming examinations.
