Lucknow. The process of administering oath to the new MLAs in the UP Assembly started from Monday. On Tuesday, 42 newly elected members of the Legislative Assembly took the oath of membership of the House. Senior member Suresh Kumar Khanna, nominated by the Governor, administered the oath to other members of the House in the swearing-in program organized in the Vidhan Sabha Pavilion. Rampur MLA Azam Khan and Kairana MLA Nahid Hasan could not take oath as they were in jail.
After the oath of 343 MLAs on the first day, this trend continues even today. However, some MLAs like Nahid Hasan, Azam Khan are in jail. Their swearing-in has not been done yet. Significantly, Azam Khan was earlier a Lok Sabha MP from Rampur. He has recently resigned from the membership of Lok Sabha. Azam Khan is currently lodged in Sitapur Jail.
