Giving a new twist, people are turning to CNG vehicles due to the rising prices of petrol and diesel in the country, in which the draft notification issued by the Government of India has allowed amendments for retro fitment of CNG and LPG kits in vehicles. . This modification will be done to replace BS6 diesel and petrol engines with CNG and LPG engines weighing less than 3.5 tonnes.
The announcement made by the government outlined the requirements for retrofitting, which states that CNG is an environment-friendly fuel as compared to petrol and diesel engines, which can reduce emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, particulate matter and smoke. does. Retro fitment of CNG and LPG kits in motor vehicles is allowed as of now only under BS4 emission norms.
Recently, Delhi allowed retro fitment of electric kits on petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years. The decision was taken after the government announced cancellation of RCs of all old vehicles to reduce pollution. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, approval for retrofitting is the demand of the day, as CNG cars do not harm the environment. At the same time, vehicles running on petrol and diesel prove to be harmful for the environment.

The draft seeks comments and suggestions from the concerned stakeholders within a period of thirty days. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the existing vehicles running on diesel and petrol will be replaced by green fuel and electric vehicles. You may recall that he had also recently said that if we do not replace diesel with biofuel, the country’s crude oil import bill will be Rs 25 lakh crore in the next five years.
