Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Vice President of National Conference-NC Omar Abdullah will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Srinagar constituency. Former minister and senior party leader Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan will contest from North Kashmir Baramulla seat. National Conference has already announced its candidate Mian Altaf Ahmed from Anantnag-Rajouri constituency.
On the other hand, former Chief Minister and President of Peoples Democratic Party – PDP Mehbooba Mufti has also announced to contest from Anantnag-Rajouri constituency. PDP has fielded its youth wing president Waheed Para from Srinagar and former Rajya Sabha member Faiyaz Ahmed Mir from Baramulla seat.
BJP has not yet announced its candidates for the three Lok Sabha seats of Kashmir. The party has fielded Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh from Kathua-Udhampur and Jugal Kishore Sharma from Jammu seat. National Conference and Congress have formed an alliance for the elections, in which NC will support Congress candidates on Jammu and Kathua-Udhampur seats, while Congress will not field its candidates against NC on three seats in Kashmir.
Sajjad Gani Lone of People’s Conference is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla constituency.
Voting for Lok Sabha elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir in 5 phases. There are 5 Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Lok Sabha elections are going to be held here for the first time after the removal of Article 370. In the first phase, voting will be held on April 19 for Udhampur Lok Sabha seat. The second phase of voting will be held in Jammu on April 26, Anantnag-Rajouri seat on May 7, Srinagar on May 13 and Baramulla on May 20. Here we will see a triangular contest between three teams. BJP is contesting all 5 seats on its own. The India alliance includes Congress, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party. The third front includes Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Democratic Progressive Azad Party, which broke away from the Congress, Sajid Ghani Lone’s Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference and Altaf Bukhari’s Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party.
Udhampur Lok Sabha seat
In the first phase in Jammu and Kashmir, voting will be held for Udhampur Lok Sabha seat on April 19. This is considered a safe seat for BJP. Presently Dr. Jitendra Singh of BJP is the MP from here. He has been elected MP from here twice consecutively. The party has made him its candidate for the third time also. In the 2019 elections, Jitendra Singh defeated Vikramaditya Singh of Congress by securing 7.24 lakh votes. Vikramaditya got 3.67 lakh votes.
This time, Chaudhary Lal Singh of Congress, Amil Kumar of Bahujan Samaj Party and Balwan Singh of Jammu and Kashmir National Panther Party are in the fray against Jitendra Singh. A total of 12 candidates are in the fray from Udhampur seat.
Udhampur Lok Sabha seat consists of six districts Kishtwar, Ramban, Kathua, Doda, Reasi and Udhampur. There are 17 assembly seats under this Lok Sabha seat. These include Ram Nagar, Banihal, Hiranagar, Chenani, Ramban, Billawar, Udhampur, Bhadarwah, Kathua, Gularnas, Doda, Basohli, Reasi, Inderwal, Bani, Gulabgarh and Kishtwar. In the 2024 assembly elections, BJP had won 12 seats from here. Congress had won 4 seats.
