Thiruvananthapuram. Both the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the opposition Congress in Kerala on Sunday accused each other over various issues including the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the recent Kannur blast. Both the parties are constituents of the opposition ‘India’ alliance. Voting for the Lok Sabha elections in the state will be held on April 26. The campaign has intensified in the state. At a public meeting of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Mavelikkara Lok Sabha constituency, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan reiterated his allegations of Congress being silent on the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and various policies of the Central government.
He argued that Congress never opposed the policies of the Central Government which were economically affecting the state and hindering its welfare measures. Vijayan claimed that the past experience of the country has been that the Congress’ stance has always been similar to that of the BJP and hence, it cannot be trusted to oppose the BJP. He alleged that the BJP government at the Center was actually carrying forward the ‘anti-people policies of the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA)-II government’.
Hitting back at the CPI(M) and Vijayan, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly V D Satheesan referred to the recent bomb blast in Kannur in which one person lost his life and said the Left party is no different from terrorist organizations that kill their members. Trained in making explosives. Congress alleges that CPI(M) workers were involved in the blast. According to the police, all eight persons involved in the incident, including the one who died, were CPI(M) workers. However, the Left party has denied this.
The entire country has seen what happened in Sandeshkhali… PM Modi said, TMC wants free hand for violence in Bengal.
The CPI(M) has claimed that all the persons involved in the incident were shunted from the party as they had attacked workers of the Left political organization in the past. Responding to these claims of the CPI(M), Satheesan questioned why the local party leader then visited the house of the person killed in the blast. He alleged that keeping the Lok Sabha elections in mind, the CPI(M) distanced itself from the people involved in the incident and said that they were not party workers. He said that the party’s stance will change after the elections. Meanwhile, police said that raids are being conducted in various parts of Kannur district with the help of bomb disposal squads following the blast in Panur on Friday. The explosion took place while making a homemade bomb.
