Australia’s team has reached Pakistan for a series of three Tests, three ODIs and one T20 match. The Kangaroo team reached Islamabad on Sunday (27 February). Kangaroo captain Pat Cummins, while talking about the security arrangements for the visiting Australian team in Pakistan, said that the players are feeling completely safe after reaching Islamabad on Sunday. Australia is touring Pakistan for the first time in 24 years.
Pat Cummins denied any apprehensions about the security in Pakistan, saying that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken care of all of them very well. Australia last toured Pakistan in 1998. Then he won the three-Test series 1-0. At the same time, Pakistan was also eliminated in the three-match series.
Since the terrorist attack on the visiting Sri Lankan team bus in 2009, Pakistan has struggled to get foreign teams home. Australia pulled out of the tour five years ago after a suicide bombing in a Lahore church. Pakistan has hosted Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and South Africa in the last six years. Australia is the first high-profile team to tour Pakistan for a full bilateral series.
Australia’s tour of Pakistan is a big deal for the PCB as New Zealand and England postponed their scheduled tour last year citing security concerns. “I feel safe. We have been taken really good care of by the PCB,” Cummins said on Sunday. Cummins said that Pakistan is an incredible cricketing country.
Australia’s confidence is boosted after beating England 4-1 in the Ashes series. He has to play important series in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India this year. Cummins said his players are focused on doing well in the subcontinent. The first Test match will be played in Rawalpindi from March 4 to March 8. The second Test will be held in Karachi from March 12 to 16 and the third Test in Lahore from March 21 to March 25. After this, three ODIs and one T20 match will be played in Rawalpindi.
