Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed hope that relations with the neighboring country will improve after the general elections in India. A few days before Asif’s comments, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said in Singapore that Pakistan was sponsoring terrorism on an almost “industrial level” and that India was no longer in the mood to ignore terrorists, hence it would “now Will not ignore the problem.”
Relations with India can be better
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament House in Islamabad, Khawaja Asif said on Monday, “Our relations with India can improve after the elections.” He said bilateral relations between the two countries have their own “background”. Talking about Afghanistan, Defense Minister Asif said that he has visited Afghanistan with a high-level delegation and urged the Taliban government there to stop terrorism. It is requested to take effective steps for this.
Pakistan has been with Afghanistan
According to ‘Geo News’ news, Asif said that the solution proposed by Kabul is not practically possible. Asif said, “Due to the fluctuations in the attitude of the interim government of Afghanistan towards Pakistan, our options for the neighbor are decreasing day by day.” He said that Pakistan has always stood with Afghanistan, made sacrifices for them and even fought wars with them.
India-Pakistan relations
Notably, India and Pakistan have a long history of strained relations, mainly due to the Kashmir issue as well as Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. In 2019, Pakistan downgraded its relations with India after India abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats in India will be held in seven phases between April 19 and June 4. Language
