Hearing is going on in the Supreme Court regarding the ongoing political instability in Pakistan. The Supreme Court has made a scathing remark on the non-approval of the no-confidence motion against PM Imran Khan and the dissolution of the National Assembly. The Supreme Court of Pakistan said that the Parliament has been dissolved and 90 days have been given for the elections. Due to this the country has become helpless in a way for 90 days. Justice Mazhar Alam told the President’s representative Ali Jafar, ‘Isn’t the court the custodian of the Constitution? If someone is affected by the parliamentary process then how will there be justice? If injustice happens, will the court remain silent?
On this, the government’s lawyer Imtiaz Siddiqui said, ‘As per his oath, the speaker can take the right decision. This is an internal matter of Parliament and cannot be questioned. The court has never questioned the internal proceedings of Parliament in the past. The proceedings of Parliament cannot be questioned in court and it is beyond that. The public prosecutor said that if there is any flaw in the parliamentary procedure, then it can be rectified there. The court should have nothing to do with it.
Significantly, the National Assembly of Pakistan was to vote on a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan’s government on April 3, but the speaker dissolved the parliament itself. He said that there is an allegation of foreign conspiracy behind this no-confidence motion and in such a situation voting cannot be done on it. Opposition parties had moved the court against this decision of the speaker. Imran Khan has also openly told America’s hand in the no-confidence motion against him.
