Imran Khan’s plan to save his chair. The result of this is that the political crisis in Pakistan has deepened at this time. General elections are to be held again in the next few days and the country will get a new Wazir-e-Azam. Before this, a caretaker PM is needed to run the country. In such a situation, the President of the National Assembly has recommended the formation of a parliamentary committee to appoint Imran Khan and Shahbaz Sharif as caretaker PMs.
After a huge upheaval in Pakistan’s politics on Sunday, Imran Khan’s cabinet has been dissolved and Imran Khan has lost his post of Wazir-e-Azam. At present the post of PM is vacant in the country. In such a situation, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Asad Qaiser, wrote to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif, demanding the name of a parliamentary committee to appoint a caretaker prime minister. On the other hand, the Supreme Court is hearing the no-confidence motion for the last four days. The purpose of the hearing is the rejection of the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan and the dissolution of the House.
Citing clause (1) of Article 224-A of the Constitution of Pakistan, National Assembly President Asad Qaiser has requested Imran Khan and Shahbaz Sharif to nominate four members to be appointed as caretaker prime ministers.
In a letter to the two leaders, Kaiser said, “I would like to draw your attention to clause (1) of Article 224-A of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, which is reproduced for your convenience as follows: 224A(1) In case the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing National Assembly do not agree to appoint any person as the acting Prime Minister, within three days of the dissolution of the National Assembly, they shall each be nominated by two nominees. forward to a committee to be constituted forthwith by the President of the National Assembly, consisting of eight members of the outgoing National Assembly, or the Senate, or both, having equal representation from the Treasury and the Opposition, who shall be appointed as the Prime Minister and the Opposition, respectively. To be nominated by the leader.”
Significantly, on Sunday, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly rejected a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan saying that a conspiracy was being hatched to oust Imran Khan from the throne due to foreign power in the country. The opposition was shocked by this recommendation of the Deputy Speaker and reached the Supreme Court and raised the matter before the CJI.
