Rawalpindi: A woman from Pakistan has given birth to 6 children simultaneously. All 6 children and the mother are alive. In a span of just 1 hour, Pakistani woman Zeenat Waheed gave birth to six children one after the other. Even the doctors were surprised by this. According to Dawn report, a 27-year-old woman gave birth to these children on Friday at the District Headquarters Hospital in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Four of the newborns are boys, while two are girls. Each weighs less than two pounds.
Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Farzana said that all six children and their mother are healthy. The report said that Mohammad Waheed’s wife Zeenat Waheed gave birth to six children one after the other within an hour. This was Zeenat’s first delivery. She suffered labor pain on Thursday night and was then brought to the hospital. The doctors have kept the children in an incubator. Dr. Farzana told that Zeenat had complications after giving birth to children. But his condition is expected to become normal in the next few days. The duty officer in the labor room said, “It was not a normal delivery. The first two babies born in the order of delivery were boys and the third was a girl.” Meanwhile, while talking to the media, Zeenat’s family expressed happiness over the birth of the children.
How did the miracle happen?
It is thought that sextuplets are born in only one in every 4.5 million pregnancies. Live birth of such a large number of babies is a rare phenomenon. A woman can be pregnant with two or more fetuses at the same time. Fraternal twins form when a fertilized egg divides before being implanted in the uterus (as is the case with identical twins) or when different eggs are fertilized by different sperm.
In recent years, reproductive technologies such as ovulation-stimulating drugs and in vitro fertilization (IVF) have been shown to cause multiple pregnancies. Ovulation-stimulating medications help produce many eggs. If they are fertilized, they could result in multiple children, according to Stanford Medicine. The same reason could be in Zeenat’s case also.
