External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted about the death of Mukul Arya. “Deeply saddened by the news of the passing away of Mukul Arya, the representative of India in Ramallah. He was a brilliant officer. My condolences to his family and loved ones,” the External Affairs Minister tweeted. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said it is liaising with its officials to make arrangements to bring the body of the deceased ambassador to India for the last rites.
Palestinian leadership expressed condolences
As soon as the painful news broke, immediate instructions were issued from President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Dr Muhammad Shtayyeh to all security, police and public officials. The top leadership of Palestine on Sunday condoled the death of India’s representative in Palestine, Mukul Arya, at his workplace. On this sad occasion, Dr. Riyadh Al-Maliki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas, expressed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar and through him to the friendly Government of India, Ambassador Arya’s family and their relatives.
Arya had also worked at the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
Arya, a 2008 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, had worked in the Indian embassies in Kabul and Moscow. He also served in the Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO in Paris. Arya has also worked at the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi. He studied economics at Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University before joining the Indian Foreign Service.
