Raipur. With the sound of a knock on a computer’s keyboard and words emerging on the screen, the entire electronic page can be reached hundreds of kilometers away with just one click. This discovery of science has played an important role in reducing the use of paper, but still many places do not work without paper. The cost of making paper has to be paid by the greenery on the earth.
The state assembly has taken a welcome step for the upcoming budget session. For the first time, the system of reporting questions online has been implemented for the members. The MLAs have also informed the Secretariat online, giving a positive sign. 90% questions have been received online. With this initiative, the assembly will save 2.2 tonnes of paper every year. With this one step, about 58 trees will be saved from being cut.
According to the report of IIT Kharagpur, in the last eight years, a total of 36,650 questions have been reported by the members in the Vidhan Sabha at an average of 4,450 questions per annum. About one hundred pages (A-four size) are used in the process including departmental answers behind each question. On this basis four lakh 55 thousand pages of paper are used every year. By saving so many pages, not only will 58 trees be saved, but one lakh liters of water will also be saved and 9.9 tonnes of carbon emissions will be reduced. Paper and its products are essential in our lives, as well as a safe environment. Paper is often used in the promotion of education, business, bank, industry, government-non-government, institutions or establishments.
The paper plays both the beginning and the end role in the development of the individual and the society. Nitrogen gas, particulate matter is emitted in the production of paper. Paper factories cause air, water and land pollution. This can be called paper pollution. A tree annually produces 117 kg of oxygen and absorbs 22 kg of carbon. The increasing demand for paper directly works to damage the forests, as trees are cut for this. This will have an impact on the environment.
Science has given us this option. Today most of the work is being done on computers, laptops and mobiles. Applications are being made online. Technology has given the option of saving paper, so it should be used. Most of the people are apprehensive that if the system hangs then their data will be deleted. Although there is an option to keep data safe, but people lack information. It is to be hoped that the paperless methodology of Vidhan Sabha will inspire everyone.
