1000 will have to be fined
Significantly, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had fixed the date of 31 March 2022 for linking PAN card with Aadhaar card by issuing a circular. After this, with a fine of Rs 500, it was allowed to do it till June 30. But, by this time limit, if the card holder misses to do this work, then this penalty will increase to 1000 rupees i.e. double.
PAN card may be deactivated
This late fee can be paid through Challan No ITNS 280. If you do not link your PAN with your Aadhaar number then your PAN card may become inoperative. The problem of PAN card holder will not end here. If PAN is not linked with Aadhaar, you will not be able to invest in mutual funds, stocks, open bank accounts, etc. Because it is necessary to present PAN card here. Further, under section 272B of the Income Tax Act 1961, the Assessing Officer can direct penal action if you show an invalid PAN card.
