Joint PhonePe users traveling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can now make payments using UPI at Mashreq’s NeoPay terminal. Walmart Group’s digital payment company gave this information on Thursday. PhonePe said in the statement that the transactions will be facilitated by Unified Payment Interface (UPI). Debit from the account will be in Indian Rupees, reflecting the exchange rate of the currency. NEOPAY Terminals are available at retail stores, restaurants as well as tourist and holiday destinations.
Customers will be able to transact through UPI
Ritesh Pai, CEO, International Payments, PhonePe, said, “With this partnership, customers can now easily transact through UPI. “Enabling digital payments not only reflects PhonePay’s commitment to convenience, but also meets the evolving needs of today’s travelers.”
Indian travelers will benefit
This collaboration is facilitated through Mashreq’s partnership with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). Through this partnership Mashreq has enabled NEOPAY terminals to accept the UPI app as a payment instrument, allowing Indian travelers to conveniently use UPI for transactions. Vibhor Mundhada, CEO of NeoPay at Mashreq, said, “We are delighted to collaborate with PhonePe to provide yet another new payment solution for Indian tourists and visitors to the UAE, adding to the already strong financial relationship between the two countries. “This latest launch underlines our commitment to embed innovation and technology in our operations and deliver the solutions and experiences our customers want.”
