Jagdalpur. To make the chariot of Bastar Dussehra, about 240 trees of hundred to 150 years old are cut every year and a chariot is made, whereas in Jagannathpuri 200 trees per year? Cut three chariots are made and 800 saplings are planted as compensation. This tradition has now been started in Bastar also. This innovative initiative has been taken by the Forest Department. Better work of Dussehra compensation plantation has been done in Bodamunda of Gram Panchayat Markel number two under Machkot forest range. Four months ago, on the day of Dussehra, 400 saplings of Sal and Bija were planted here with the help of villagers. They are all alive as every plant is being watered through pots. And this work is being done by the Forest Management Committee Bodamunda very well.

According to tradition, huge chariots are built every year for Bastar Dussehra. For this, the Forest Department provides about 51 cubic meters of wood every year free of cost to the Dussehra Committee. In Jagdalpur, Machkot and Darbha forest range, about 240 trees are cut every year for making chariots. According to the Forest Department, the market value of the wood allowed to make a chariot is around Rs 30 lakh. Despite this huge loss, the Dussehra Committee or the Temple Estate Committee never tried to plant trees according to compensation or environmental protection.
Planting just one time
In the year 2020, Dussehra Forest plantation was done jointly by the District Administration and Forest Department for about 150 years in Kumhadakot, but no amount was allotted by Bastar Dussehra Committee for the plantation of Bastar Dussehra Compensation, due to the appeal of environmental lovers. In 2021, with the joint effort of the district administration and the forest department, compensatory plantation was started at various places.
365 saplings planted
For Bastar Dussehra, for Bastar Dussehra 16 from Machkot forest range, 150 trees of different species were cut for Ballis, therefore, on this, the Forest Department and Forest Management Committee of Bodamunda in the reserve forest room number 1150 located at village Markel of the area. With the help of Bastar Dussehra compensation plantation work has been done in 10 acres of forest land.
Plantation with mutual cooperation not allotment
No allocation has been given by the department for this work. Financial assistance has been given by the officers-employees and villagers. Fencing has been done on ten acres of land with this amount. Water is being arranged by tanker by Gram Panchayat Markel 2. All the plants are alive as a pot of soil is placed next to each plant. Plants are being irrigated by drip method. A watchman is also posted here for security. Which is being paid monthly. Sarpanch Rajni Nag and Sandeep Daniel have an important role in the protection of planted plants.
Planted 400 saplings of Bija
The number of trees will be cut from the Machkot forest in the reserved land. That number of saplings will be planted every year in the said land. At the time of last Dussehra, 400 saplings of Sal and Bija were planted here, all of them are developing.
