Islamabad: It is extremely hot in Pakistan. Hundreds of patients affected by heat wave were treated in hospitals across the country on Thursday. Officials have given information about this. Due to severe heat wave in Pakistan, the temperature reached much above the normal level. The maximum temperature recorded in Mohenjodaro yesterday was 49 degrees Celsius. The city, famous for its archaeological sites in southern Sindh province, was badly affected by monsoon rains and flash floods in 2022.
No hope of getting relief
The weather department has predicted that the heatwave will continue for at least a week. Officials have urged people to stay indoors, drink plenty of water and avoid unnecessary travel. However, workers say they have no choice as they have to work to feed their families.
‘Have seen rain and floods’
Addressing reporters in Islamabad, Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Climate Rubina Khurshid Alam said, “Pakistan is the fifth most vulnerable country to the impact of climate change. “We have seen more rainfall and flooding than normal.”
Conditions have worsened
Doctors say they have treated hundreds of heatstroke patients in Lahore and a large number of patients are being brought to hospitals in Hyderabad, Larkana and Jacobabad districts of southern Sindh province. A senior health department official said, “The situation has worsened since yesterday (Wednesday). Patients affected by the severe heatwave have started coming to hospitals in Punjab province since yesterday.” Pakistan has set up emergency response centers in hospitals to treat heat-affected patients.
