Europe is grappling with the most serious security crisis of this decade after Russia announced the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine and sending troops there. Both these cities of Ukraine are adjacent to Russia and have been occupied by Russian-backed separatists since 2014. President Zelensky has also appealed to foreign companies and citizens not to leave Ukraine.
In a televised message, Zelensky said that we are still trying to find a diplomatic solution to the crisis. Welcoming Turkish mediation efforts in this, he said that Ukraine will not allow Russia to occupy any of its territories.
In his address to the country after the all-party meeting in the Parliament House, Zelensky announced the program ‘economic patriotism’. This includes incentives for local production and VAT exemption on gasoline. Zelensky said there was no need to deploy the army right now. We are preparing for recruitment in the Ukrainian army and other military alliances.
He said that being the Supreme Commander of the country’s army, he is ordering to start recruitment as reserve soldiers for a specific period. He said that we have to speed up the preparations for Ukraine. We have to be ready to deal with any situation. On this occasion, he openly criticized foreign embassies and businessmen leaving Ukraine and appealed again to companies not to leave the country.
