new Delhi. On Thursday, a rape accused opened fire at a police party on Kheda Prahladpur Road in outer north Delhi when asked to surrender. The police retaliated in which he was shot in the knee of his left leg, after which he was apprehended. Outer North Delhi DCP Brijendra Kumar Yadav said that the accused has been identified as Mohammad Akhtar. A pistol, empty cartridges and a stolen mobile phone were recovered from him.
A senior police officer said that the victim had gone missing around 7 pm on March 9. Her family told the police that she was playing outside the house when she went missing. Police have started investigation by registering a case of kidnapping. A day after the incident, on March 10, the girl was brought to his home by a neighbor, who said he found her nearby.
The medical examination done on the same day found nothing adverse and no sexual assault was mentioned in the medical report.
Police said, “The statement of the girl under 164 CrPC was recorded before the magistrate on the same day and her statement did not say anything related to sexual harassment. To which her parents also agreed.”
On March 12, the girl developed some medical problems and was taken to the hospital, where after examination it was found that the girl’s hymen had ruptured, indicating sexual assault. The police then added sections of sexual harassment and other relevant sections of POCSO in the case.
A team was constituted to investigate the matter. After that the search for the accused started.
On Thursday, the police got information about the movement of the accused. The accused also had stolen mobile phones and illegal weapons.
Police said, “The accused was stopped at old Khera Prahladpur road in Sector-29 of Rohini. Seeing the police personnel, the accused fired two rounds at the police party. In retaliation, the police also fired four rounds and one bullet was fired from the left of the accused. He got hit in the leg. After that he was caught.”
Further investigation is being done in this matter.
