The Special Cell of Delhi Police has unearthed an alleged international drugs gang. The Special Cell has arrested two gang members, as well as recovered ten kilograms of heroin worth over Rs 40 crore. According to the police, both the gang members have been identified as Nazir alias Nazim and Dinesh Singh.
Giving information about the matter, Jasmeet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Delhi Police Special Cell said that the gang members smuggle heroin into India from Myanmar via Manipur. The DCP said, a car has also been recovered from the accused, in which a chamber has been made for hiding drugs and smuggling of narcotics. However, a case has been registered against both of them under the NDPS Act.
According to DCP Jasmeet Singh, on March 24, the Special Cell had received information that two members of the drug gang would bring a huge consignment of heroin from Jharkhand. It was told in the information that both the members would hand over these banned items to one of their other members associated with the gang in ISBT Sarai Kale Khan. According to the police, the arrested drug suppliers have revealed during interrogation that they are members of a large international drugs gang.
During police interrogation, both the accused told that they were involved in supply of drugs in Delhi-NCR and parts of UP in the last 5 years. He was bringing heroin recovered from a person from Jharkhand’s district Chatra, Jharkhand. Both also stated that the person providing them heroin has links in Myanmar and Manipur.
DCP Singh said, most of the heroin brought into Manipur from Myanmar is sent to the adjoining states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. It is then taken to other parts of the country including Delhi. He said during the investigation of the case, it has come to the notice that heroin is also made from illegally cultivated opium in Naxal-affected areas of Jharkhand and insurgency-affected areas in Manipur. Also the arrested drug smugglers have further disclosed that they used to buy heroin from Jharkhand.
