In the case of riots in the capital over the citizenship laws two years ago, the Delhi High Court has again issued notices to several politicians to form a party. This includes Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul and his sister Priyanka Gandhi, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, BJP leader Kapil Mishra and many other leaders.
A bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Rajneesh Bhatnagar took the decision on non-serving of earlier notices issued by the court on February 28 due to non-payment of processing fee by the petitioners. The bench said, “Notices could not be sent to the proposed litigants (politicians, celebrities, activists and others) as their fees were not deposited. Fresh notice be sent to all the proposed litigants after the petitioners have deposited the fees and completed other formalities within two days.
The court has fixed April 29 for hearing the matter. The court, hearing various petitions related to the riots in North-East Delhi in February, 2020, has issued notices to all the proposed litigants. Action has been requested against these people in both the petitions.
The petition, filed by Sheikh Mujtaba Farooq, has sought registration of an FIR against BJP leaders Anurag Thakur, Kapil Mishra, Parvesh Verma and Abhay Verma for alleged hate speech.
The second application has been moved by ‘Lawyers Voice’ for alleged hate speech by Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi as well as Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan, AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, AIMIM Former MLAs Waris Pathan, Mehmood Pracha, Harsh Mander, Mufti Mohammad Ismail, actress Swara Bhaskar, Umar Khalid, B. Yes. A request has been made to register an FIR against Kolse Patil, former judge of Bombay High Court and others.
Earlier, senior advocate Colin Gansolvis, appearing for one of the petitioners, said that he agreed to make some BJP leaders as parties, whose plea had sought action as a party. On the other hand, senior advocate Sonia Mathur, appearing for one of the petitioners ‘Lawyer’s Voice’, also said that she would also include some political leaders of Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), AIMIM and others as a party.
