Gurugram police have registered a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy against former Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova and former Formula One racer Michael Schumacher on a complaint by a woman. Apart from Maria Sharapova and Formula 1 racer Schumacher, a case has also been registered against 11 others. The FIR was lodged by a Delhi-based woman who has accused him of cheating.
According to the information, Shefali Agarwal, a resident of Chhatarpur Mini Farm, New Delhi, has filed a complaint. Shefali told that she had booked an apartment in a project named Sharapova. In this project a tower was named after Schumacher. According to the complainant Shefali, the people operating the project had said that the work would be completed by 2016, but the project was never executed.
Now Shefali Aggarwal accused international celebrities of being part of the fraud. Earlier, Shefali had filed a complaint against M/s Realtech Development and Infrastructure (India) Pvt Ltd in a Gurugram court. In which he accused the project’s company, Sharapova and Schumacher, of fraud of about Rs 80 lakh.
Complainant Shefali Agarwal told the court that she herself and her husband had booked a residential apartment in the name of Sharapova in Sector 73 of Gurugram, but the companies cheated them by luring them to invest money in their project. Shefali said in the complaint that “We came to know about the project through advertisements and through photographs that these celebrities are promoting the project.
Complainant Shefali Agarwal also stated that Sharapova and Schumacher, as promoters, conspired with the buyers. The complainant alleged that Sharapova had visited the site and promised to open a tennis sports academy and store. Also in the brochure of the project it was told that Sharapova is promoting the project. Sharapova even attended a dinner party with the buyers.
However, an FIR has been registered in this case at Badshahpur police station under sections 34, 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC. Giving information in the matter, Inspector Dinkar, SHO of the police station said, “As per the order of the court, an FIR has been registered and we are reviewing the matter and investigation is on.”
