The Delhi government is contemplating taking liberal policy measures to boost the city’s night economy, so that the food and hospitality sector can function smoothly. Officials gave this information.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday announced measures like making land available for ‘cloud kitchens’, redevelopment of major food centers and bringing a food truck policy in the capital in the budget for the financial year 2022-23. There are also plans to boost the hospitality sector, including allowing bars in hotels, clubs and restaurants to remain open till late at night under the new excise policy of the Delhi government. According to the information, bars can now be kept open from eight o’clock in the night to two o’clock in the night. The government estimates that more than 60 thousand jobs will be created in this sector.
A senior Delhi official said, “We have taken several steps to boost the night economy, including developing a ‘Food Truck Policy’ and a ‘Food Hub’ in the city.” Several other initiatives will be taken in this regard in the coming days. Food trucks, restaurants and film policies will also boost ‘nightlife’ in the capital, he said. Another official said that the Capital Region Planning Board in its Regional Draft Plan 2041 has suggested states adjoining Delhi to encourage the night economy by developing facilities and infrastructure for the same.
