During the crackdown on the accused of violence in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh, the Khargone district administration also demolished Hasina Fakhru’s house. Hasina Fakhru’s house was built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. There was a lot of humiliation by the administration for the action at Hasina’s house. The family was staying in a neighboring mosque after the house collapsed. The Indian Express had raised the issue prominently. Now the administration has come forward to help the family.
On Saturday (April 16) afternoon, the officials of the Municipal Corporation along with the officials of the district administration met Fakhru and his family. After providing the ration to the family, the officials took thumb impressions of the family members and informed them that they would be taken to the multiplex. Khargone District Collector Anugrah P told The Indian Express that the government would rehabilitate the family.
Hasina Fakhru’s son Amjad Khan said, “They (officials) first told us that they will shift us to a multiplex, but that building is in a communal area, so we refused. Then the team asked us where is our old house. We told them that we have been living in Khaskhaswadi for three decades. But they are still searching for our house in different localities along with the local people.”
Officials of the district administration said that the land occupied by Hasina Fakhru’s family belonged to the revenue department. Amjad Khan showed tax receipts and electricity bills from 2017-18 on the basis of which his father Fakhru Pathan had applied for PM Awas Yojana. He said that the family was living in a kutcha house on that land in Khaskhaswadi for three decades.
The third and final installment under the housing scheme arrived in Hasina’s bank account on 4 April 2022 and on 7 April the family received a notice stating that the house was built on encroached land and hence be vacated . The administration had asked the family to respond within three days or face demolition. At the same time, the family said, “We had prepared our answer on 9 April, but due to it being a Saturday, we could not submit it to the Tehsildar’s office. Curfew was imposed in the city on April 10 and we could not move out. The next day a team of officers came and bulldozers demolished our house.
