N Biren Singh has once again been elected for the post of CM in Manipur. Putting the brakes on this suspense that has been going on for a long time, BJP has finalized the name of Biren Singh for the post of CM. Biren Singh, who was once with the Congress, is now ready to become the CM of Manipur for the second time following the footsteps of BJP. Announcing his name, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that with his becoming the CM, the state will develop at a faster pace.
Nirmala Sitharaman announced: On Sunday, Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Kiren Rijiju reached Imphal, where the announcement was made regarding the name of the CM. Both of them are BJP’s central observers for Manipur. Announcing the name, Sitharaman said- “It is a good decision taken by consensus of all. This will ensure that Manipur has a stable and responsible government which will further develop the state, as the Center is paying special attention to the northeastern states today under the leadership of PM Modi”.
No CM face in elections: Even before this, Biren Singh was the CM, but in the recently concluded elections, BJP did not announce any candidate for the post of CM. After the victory, there was a lot of tussle about the name, but once again Biren Singh has been successful in winning.
These were the contenders: The name of Biswajit Singh was also discussed in full swing for the post of CM, but once again he has lagged behind Biren Singh. Apart from this, another name was discussed – Yumnam Khemchand Singh. Yumnam Khemchand Singh, who has been considered a very confidant of the RSS, was also met by the BJP leadership on Saturday, but he too fell behind in the CM race.
Biren Singh was once a Congressman- Biren Singh was once in Congress, but he switched sides to BJP and became the CM of the state. Biren Singh entered politics in 2002. He fought his first election from Hingang Assembly Constituency of Manipur and won from here. He retained the seat in 2007 on a Congress ticket and served as a minister till 2012. Four years later, he joined the BJP, and in 2017 he again won from the same seat, after which he was made the chief minister.
Footballer was also: Biren Singh started his career as a footballer. While playing for his team in domestic competitions as a footballer, Biren Singh joined the Border Security Force. After this, when he left the BSF, he became a journalist.
