Today the story is of P Rajagopal, popularly known as Dosa King in the country, who spread the name of Sarvana Bhavan to America. Sarvana Bhavan was the name of his restaurant which has many branches in India and abroad. But P Rajagopal, the owner of this Sarvana Bhavan, lost all prestige in the affair of astrologer, marriage and a murder. Due to which P Rajagopal was also sentenced to life imprisonment. However, he is no longer in this world.
Born in a small village of Tuticoran in Tamil Nadu, P Rajagopal’s father was a farmer. When Rajagopal grew up a little, he came to Chennai and then opened a grocery store. Meanwhile, he met an astrologer who asked Rajagopal to open a restaurant. P Rajagopal opened a restaurant within a few days and started serving traditional nutritious food for Re 1 to people.
The same thing of P Rajagopal took him to the forefront and within a few years, Sarvna Bhavan became famous all over the country. In the year 2000, P Rajagopal opened his first international outlet in Dubai and then it was like a flood. With time, the name of Sarvana Bhavan and P Rajagopal came out of Chennai and reached America. People started calling P Rajagopal the Dosa King and ‘Annachi’ meaning elder brother.
After many years, Rajagopal’s astrologer advised to get married to become the richest man in the country. However, P Rajagopal had earlier two marriages which did not materialise. Meanwhile, Jeevajyothi, the daughter of an assistant manager working in a branch of Sarvana Bhavan in Chennai, approached P Rajagopal to borrow some money. Jeevjyoti wanted to open a travel agency with the help of this money.
In the same meeting, P Rajagopal decided to marry Jeevajyoti for the third time, but Jeevajyoti had married Prince Santhakumar. P Rajagopal sent various gifts to bring the rift between the two husband and wife but he did not succeed. When the girl also lodged a complaint against P Rajagopal, he started threatening her. Both the couple decided to leave the city of Chennai.
Meanwhile, the couple was kidnapped in October 2001 but Santhakumar was murdered. In the last week of October, Santhakumar’s body was recovered by forest department officials from inside the Chola forests in Kodaikanal. Jeevajyothi filed a case against P Rajagopal, then in 2004, a sessions court in Chennai convicted Rajagopal and eight others for 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Jeevajyothi appealed against this decision in the Madras High Court, where Rajagopal was sentenced to life imprisonment by the High Court in 2009. Then Rajagopal also appealed to the Supreme Court but the court upheld the High Court order on March, 2019. However, P Rajagopal died in the year 2019 while serving the sentence.
