The domination of Bahubalis in Bihar was at its peak in the 90s. Was the government and was the administration all running their government. In the afternoon of December 5, 1994, the then DM of Gopalganj, G. Krishnaiah was returning after attending a meeting. But the District Magistrate of an honest image was caught by the crowd and then a terrible mishap happened.
On December 5, 1994, the then DM of Gopalganj, G. Krishnaiah was returning after attending a meeting of officials. A day before this, on December 5, famous gangster Chhotan Shukla of North Bihar was murdered. There was huge anger in North Bihar and thousands of people were protesting on the highway with dead bodies. Meanwhile, the then DM G. Krishnaiah’s car with a red beacon passed through the national highway.
The furious crowd present on the highway got enraged on seeing the car with red beacon and started pelting stones. The driver and security personnel of the car tried their best to save the DM but he was unsuccessful. The mob dragged DM Krishnaiah out of the car. The driver and security personnel of the car kept shouting that he was the DM of Gopalganj, not Muzaffarpur but he was beaten to death near Khabra village.
The murder of a DM posted in broad daylight created a sensation in the whole country. In the case, Chhotan Shukla’s brother was accused that he had also shot at the DM’s forehead. There was a stir in the administrative circles along the political corridors. In the DM murder case, the lower court of the wife sentenced Anand Mohan, former MP and Bahubali of Kosi area, besides former ministers Akhlaq Ahmed and Arun Kumar to death in 2007.
However, later this decision of the lower court was converted into life imprisonment by the Patna High Court. In the same murder case, Anand Mohan’s wife Lovely Anand, Chhotan Shukla’s brother Munna Shukla and two others were also sentenced to life imprisonment. Although he was acquitted in 2008 due to lack of evidence, Anand Mohan did not get relief from the Supreme Court.
IAS G. Krishnaiah was a resident of Mahbubnagar in Telangana. Yes. Krishnaiah was a 1985 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Bihar cadre. He was the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj when he was murdered. IAS G. Krishnaiah’s image was that of an honest and simple-minded officer. Apart from this, IAS G.
