new Delhi. The Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which was captured by the Russian military on March 4, has been taken over by Moscow’s state-run nuclear company Rosatom. A top Ukrainian official made this claim on Saturday. In a social media post, Petro Kotin, head of Ukraine’s state-run nuclear company Energoatom, said, “Representatives of the so-called military-civilian administration came to the station and gathered the management. They did not name their names, but only said that they were military. -The citizens are the representatives of the administration.”
Petro Kotin said, “They told the management that it (the plant) is now a Rosatom station and it no longer belongs to Ukraine. They said that they have been here for a long time and it is now their territory, so the nuclear power plant should be removed.” Must work according to Rosatom’s rules.”
Ukrainska Pravda newspaper said in a report that it was previously reported that Rosatom, which operates several hundred Russian nuclear power enterprises, was involved in the capture of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.
He added, “There were eight other people trying to take over the management of the Zaporizhzhya NPP. They were not allowed there. However, all these cases suggest that Rosatom also participated in this aggression and that Essentially now conducting raids, trying to seize and control the nuclear power plant.”
According to Kotin, Energoatom has already prepared an appeal to relevant international organizations, including the IAEA, to draw attention to Rosatom’s role and involvement in aggressive actions against Ukraine’s nuclear power plants.
Referring to the condition of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which was also seized by the Russian military, Kotin said that there were many facilities on its territory, which contain radioactive waste and use nuclear fuel.
He added skeptically, “Theoretically, anything can be done with this nuclear material. It is currently within the limits and structures in which it should be, so that it does not leak into the environment.. but If the invaders want, of course, they can blow it up or something and then it will spread all over the area. Then it all depends on the direction of the wind.”
“Of course, it’s suicide for them too, if they dare to do so,” Kotin cautioned.
