India’s fast bowler S. Sreesanth has announced his retirement from Indian domestic cricket. He gave this information on Twitter on Wednesday (February 9). Retirement from domestic cricket means that all avenues for his return to Team India are closed. Sreesanth played his last match for India 11 years ago. His career was ruined in 2013 after he was caught in match-fixing. He did return to domestic cricket last year, but he was not selected for the IPL either. Sreesanth plans to open a cricket academy. Also they want to play in foreign leagues.
Sreesanth wrote on Twitter – For the sake of young players, I have decided to end my domestic cricket career. This decision is mine only. I know it won’t make me happy, but this is the right time to take a decision. I have made every moment memorable on the cricket field. has preserved it. It is an honor for me to represent my family, my colleagues and the people of India.
Sreesanth played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India
Looking at Sreesanth’s career, he made his ODI debut on 25 October 2005 against Sri Lanka in Nagpur. After this, on March 1, 2006, the first Test was played against England in Nagpur itself. On 1 December 2006, he got the opportunity to play the first T20 against South Africa in Johannesburg. Sreesanth took 87 wickets in 27 Tests. He took five wickets in an innings three times. Looking at Sreesanth’s record in ODIs, he took 75 wickets in 53 matches. Once took five wickets in the match. At the same time, Sreesanth took seven wickets in 10 T20 matches. He has 40 wickets in 44 IPL matches.
Sreesanth’s last matches in Test, ODI and T20
Talking about his last match for India in all three formats, the last Test match was played against England in 2011 at The Oval, last ODI against Sri Lanka in Mumbai in the same year and last T20 against Australia in 2008 in Melbourne. Sreesanth was a member of the team that won the World Cup in 2011. He also played the final against Sri Lanka. That proved to be his last ODI match.
Sreesanth’s record in domestic matches
In 74 first-class matches, Sreesanth took 213 wickets. Recently he got success after nine years. Apart from this, he took 124 wickets in 92 List-A matches and 54 wickets in 65 T20 matches. He played a Ranji match against Meghalaya on 17 February 2022. That proved to be his last home match. In February last year, he participated in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Sreesanth in controversy
He was banned for life by the BCCI in 2013 due to allegations of match-fixing. Sreesanth was acquitted of all charges by the special court in 2015. After this, all the restrictions imposed on him were removed by the Kerala High Court in 2018. However, a division bench of the High Court later reinstated the ban. After this Sreesanth had approached the Supreme Court. The top court upheld his guilt. The BCCI was recommended to reduce the sentence. In August 2019, BCCI Ombudsman DK Jain reduced the life ban to 7 years. That expired in September 2020.
