Khandwa (Representative of New Zealand). Very dangerous situation has now become in Ukraine. At first our medical university denied the fear of war and asked to stop but then suddenly said you can go. Then we had no means. The flight fare has been increased to Rs 1 lakh. In such a situation, we took the ticket after three days but later all the flights got cancelled. It was getting difficult to spend every single moment there. Sirens sounded higher than the clock. Sometimes it felt like firing was happening around the multi itself. To escape, we used to go to the bunker along with the Ukrainians. After trying for three days, the bus was found with great difficulty. The bus took off 25 km from the Romania border. I and about 50 Indian students reached the border by walking continuously for five and a half hours. Waited here also for nine hours. After that we could cross the border. Here the Indian Embassy officials rescued us. Taher Lokhandwala, a student of Khandwa who returned from Ukraine, said this during a discussion with Naiduniya on Friday. He has returned to India after a arduous journey of six days.
As soon as Taher reached his house in Khandwa from Indore on Friday afternoon, the happiness of his grandparents, mother and sister, including father Murtaza Lokhandwala, was no where. Mother thanked God for her safety by feeding her sweets. Former councilor and social worker Sunil Jain also reached to meet Taher. Taher told that he is doing MBBS from Odessha city. First the university said that the class will be held. There are no dangers here. That’s why we didn’t get tickets. Airports were closed on 25 February, the flight got cancelled. We started taking food items. During this, the embassy said that you can come through Romania, Poland, Hungary and Ismaili. After that we got a bus but 50 students left for Romania border for seven thousand dollars. There was a queue of vehicles till 50 km before the border. Somehow the bus reached 25 km away. From here the bus driver refused to go further. We spent the night in the bus and left for the border on foot in the morning. On the way Ukrainian women and children met in large numbers. All the men were preparing to fight the Russians with weapons in their hands. When we reached the border, there the Ukrainian army was getting only 40-40 people to cross the border. During this, three thousand students from many countries were there. Seeing the situation, action was intensified on the instructions of an officer. After waiting for nine hours we reached Romania. Here people also provided us free food. After this the Indian Embassy made all the arrangements and stayed in the shelter home for three days. The plane took everyone safely to Delhi free of cost.
heart trembled by the sound of the bomb
When in Ukraine’s Odesha city, he had to go to the bunker as soon as the siren sounded at night. The Russians were targeting government buildings and other places outside the city. The sound of missiles or shots fired heart-wrenching. The people of the multi where we were staying also fully supported us. Although they were also very scared. Once there was open firing.
Ukrainians made food on the way
Citizens of other countries including women and children were also engaged to leave the country. Many people provided food packets, water, fruits etc. even in the midst of war. He was helping everyone. Even the local police investigated at many places. He let go as the Indian flag was raised. Some friends talked about harassing the Ukrainian army on the border but it did not happen to us.
