The Russia-Ukraine war is becoming increasingly deadly. After Ukraine’s counterattack, Russia has once again launched a major air attack on the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Officials say six people have been killed and more than 10 injured in the Russian attack on Kharkiv. Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second-largest city, regional officials said. There was a sudden uproar due to the Russian attack here in the early hours of Saturday. Ukraine’s National Police said the attack was carried out by a drone. In this, pictures of the fire burning next to the streets and buildings of the city have been published, which are enough to describe the situation.
“As of this morning, 6 people were killed and 10 injured as a result of the night attack in the Shevchenkivskyi district,” Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said on the Telegram messaging app. “The attack targeted residential areas. At least nine high-rise buildings, three dormitories, several administrative buildings, a shop, a petrol station, a service station and cars were damaged,” he said. News reports said the airstrike occurred just after midnight. Ukraine’s military said on Facebook that its air defenses destroyed 28 out of 32 drones and three out of six missiles launched by Russia.
Attacks on Ukraine intensified after Putin’s re-election as President
Kharkiv, located in the north-east of Ukraine, has been a constant target of Russia. Attacks on Ukraine have intensified in recent weeks since Putin again became President of Russia. Four people were killed and apartment blocks badly damaged in a drone strike on the city on Wednesday. President Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, told news outlet Politico in an interview published Thursday that he saw Kharkiv as the most likely target for any new Russian attack in May or June. Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Sinyhubov reported an attack on a residential building and a missile strike on a village north of Kharkiv city. There were no casualties in any incident. That blast on Friday came from a moderate Russian attack in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia. An airstrike warning remained in effect for much of the country, including Kharkiv and the capital Kiev, for several hours after the attack. (Reuters)
