Prime Minister Narendra Modi has continuously appealed to both the countries to resolve the matter through dialogue.
Meanwhile, Congress members Ro Khanna and Joe Wilson during talks with Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu urged India to “speak up against Putin’s targeting of civilians in Ukraine”.
Ro Khanna of the Democratic Party said in a tweet, “Conversation with Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu Urges India to speak out against Putin’s target to citizens in Ukraine.”
Republican Joe Wilson quoted Ro Khanna’s tweet as saying, “Grateful for joining my colleague in a bipartisan call with India’s ambassador to the US. World leader Putin’s atrocities in Ukraine Condemn it. It’s important.”
This comes amid a rise in rhetoric by the US administration against Russian actions in Ukraine. US President Joe Biden on Wednesday called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “war criminal”. Also called him a “murderer dictator” and a “vicious thug”.
In a tweet, Ambassador Sandhu said, “Congress Representative Steve Chabot on Indo-US Strategic Relations joined the conversation with Rep. Joe Wilson and Rep. Ro Khanna. Also explained India’s position on current global developments.”
Earlier, India reiterated its earlier call at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for a complete end to hostilities in Ukraine. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti said, “We reiterate our call for an immediate end to hostilities across Ukraine. Our Prime Minister has reiterated this on several occasions and called for an immediate ceasefire and emphasized that Given that there is no alternative but dialogue and diplomacy.”
