An Indian student has died in the war that broke out between Russia and Ukraine. This has been confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs. Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the Indian student has died in the firing by the Russian army in Kharkiv. He told that he is in touch with the family of the deceased student. According to media reports, the name of the student who lost his life in Kharkiv was Naveen Shekharappa. He was a resident of Chalgeri in Karnataka and was currently studying in Ukraine. His age is stated to be 21 years.
Chief of Karnataka Disaster Management Department Manoj Rajan said that the accident happened with Naveen when he was going towards a store to buy something from the shelter. Later, his friend got information from the store that Naveen had died. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Bommai have themselves spoken to the father of the student killed in Kharkiv. The Chief Minister assured him to bring Naveen’s body to India.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Foreign Secretary of India has summoned the ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine and has raised their demand to immediately allow the Indian nationals living in Kharkiv and other cities to evacuate safely. It has been told that India’s ambassadors to Russia and Ukraine are also constantly talking to the government and trying to ensure the safety of Indian students.
Government sources said that there have been several demands from Russia and Ukraine for the safe evacuation of Indian students. This demand was raised several times even before the start of the war on 24 February. The ambassadors of both the countries present in India were also talked to. Preparations were complete to evacuate people from our side. A team of India is constantly present in Belgorod, Russia. But the war in Kharkiv and surrounding cities has hindered the safety of the students.
