New Delhi. Every year in the country, the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Ram is celebrated with great pomp as the festival of Ram Navami. But do you know which day and festival is celebrated as the birthday of Mata Janki? Very few people would know about the birth of Sita, the consort of Shri Ram, because of whom Shri Ram became Maryada Purushottam. It is said that Mother Sita appeared on the Navami date of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month, hence it is known as Sita Navami or Janaki Jayanti. This year this auspicious day is today i.e. 10th May, Tuesday. Mother Sita, the cultural heritage of Mithila, which has been the biggest example of women empowerment, is still neglected. Keeping all these things in mind, Vaidehi Foundation has been organizing Mother Sita’s Prakatya Diwas celebrations continuously since its inception in 2016. This time this organization has decided to celebrate this festival in Hindi Bhawan auditorium located at ITO.
During this program, women power who are proficient in five different disciplines selected from across the country and who have made outstanding contribution to the society through their works will be honored with Vaidehi-Stree Shakti Samman. Vaidehi International festival will be celebrated from 10 to 16 May. The event, to be held at the Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA) campus, will see an exhibition of various forms of Sita by selected artists from several different countries and different provinces of India. Apart from this, a special fashion show and classical Maithili music program based on women empowerment as mentioned in the Puranas will also be organized. Stalls of special items of Mithila will also be set up in this program.
Not only this, the play ‘Sita Vanvas’ and a multilingual poet’s conference will also be organized in this seven-day long program. Let us tell you, another organization Mithila Student Union has also decided to celebrate Sita Navami on Tuesday at Sheeshmahal Vatika, Kirari, Delhi. The program, which started at 10 am, will conclude with a cultural program in the evening.
