Mary Kom announced retirement: Veteran boxer Mary Kom has announced her retirement. I want to play more but I have to leave (due to the age limit). I am being forced. I have to retire and I am doing so.” Mary said during an event that “I achieved everything in my life.” Mary is the first female boxer in boxing history to capture six world titles. The five-time Asian champion was the first Indian female boxer to win a gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games.
How was Mary Kom’s career?
The experienced boxer won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games and also holds many records to his name. He introduced himself to the world at the age of 18 at the inaugural World Conference in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He impressed everyone with his boxing style and made it to the finals of the 48 kg category. She fell short in the finals but left a mark of success that was to come to her in the future. In the coming years, she became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. He won the World Championship title in the 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010 seasons. After winning the 2008 title, Mary went on break after giving birth to her twins.
After winning the 2012 Olympic medal, Mary went on a break once again after giving birth to her third child. He made a comeback but cemented his place at the top in the 2018 World Championships held in Delhi. She recorded a 5–0 victory over Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota for her sixth world title. A year later, she won her eighth world medal, the most by any male or female boxer.
