IPL 2024 Slow Over Rate Rule: Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant and Gujarat Titans captain Shubmal Gill have faced huge losses during IPL 2024. Both these captains have been fined Rs 12 lakh each due to slow over rate. This is not the first time in IPL, even before this many captains have had to face this fine. But do you know what is the rule of slow over rate and how much huge loss the captain may have to suffer if this mistake is made repeatedly?
What is slow over rate?
The rule of slow over rate is used to complete the cricket match on time. Under this rule, the bowling team has to complete 20 overs in 90 minutes. These 90 minutes do not include time for strategic time out and DRS. The over rate meter is stopped immediately when a strategic time out and DRS is taken. But if 20 overs are not completed in 90 minutes then action is taken against the captain. At the same time, under this rule, fine can also be imposed on other players.
What is the penalty for slow over rate?
If the team could not complete 20 overs within the regular time, then in the remaining overs the team had to keep 5 fielders inside the 30-yard circle instead of 4. At the same time, for committing this mistake for the first time, a fine of Rs 12 lakh is imposed on the captain. At the same time, if the captain commits the same mistake again, a fine of Rs 24 lakh is imposed. Other players in the team are also fined Rs 6 lakh or 25% of the match fee. At the same time, on committing this mistake for the third time, the captain is banned for one match along with Rs 30 lakh, along with this, the rest of the players of the team are fined Rs 12 lakh each or 50% of their match fee.
Pant-Gill suffered a loss of lakhs
So far in IPL 2024, only Shubmal Gill and Rishabh Pant have had to face slow over rates. Let us tell you that the Delhi Capitals team could not complete 20 overs within the regular time against CSK on March 31, the team was 3 overs behind the scheduled time. For this reason, in the last two overs, the team had to keep 5 fielders inside the 30-yard circle instead of 4. At the same time, Gujarat Titans could not complete 20 overs on time against CSK on March 26.
