Malappuram (Kerala). A consumer commission in Kerala has ordered motor vehicle company Maruti Suzuki India Limited to refund the price of a car sold to a customer. This order has been given on the damage caused due to non-opening of the vehicle’s airbag in an accident. Malappuram District Consumer Commission passed this order after considering the complaint of Mohammed Musliyar, a resident of Malappuram district.
In an official statement on Tuesday, the commission was quoted as saying that as per the complaint, the car in which the complainant was traveling met with an accident on June 30, 2021 and the person suffered serious injuries. The vehicle was seriously damaged in the accident.
The consumer approached the redressal body and alleged that it was the manufacturer’s fault that the ‘airbag’ did not deploy, causing serious injuries. The motor vehicle inspector also said that the airbag did not work at the time of the accident.
The statement said that the commission has ordered the refund of Rs 4,35,854 worth of the vehicle and Rs 20,000 as litigation cost. The Commission said that if the order is not followed within a month, nine percent interest will be charged on this amount.
