Lucknow. After projecting a new image and making efforts to make the party more comprehensive, the Samajwadi Party is working hard to regain the vote bank of Yadavs. The party has fielded 12 Yadav candidates on 16 seats for the Legislative Council, where elections are due in the coming weeks.
The SP has placed its bet on the youth, with about 50 per cent of the candidates coming for the first time.
A day earlier, the SP had confirmed the candidature of Kafeel Khan from Deoria-Kushinagar seat.
Several SP candidates filed their nomination papers on Wednesday.
Voting for the MLC elections in 36 seats under 35 local bodies in the state (Etah, Mathura, Mainpuri seat electing two candidates) will be held on April 9 and the counting of votes will take place on April 12.
In these elections, all the public representatives will vote for their respective constituencies.
The names of Anurag Verma (Kheeri), Manoj Kumar (Jaunpur), Umesh Kumar (Varanasi), Amar Yadav (Bahrich), Vijay Bahadur Yadav (Pratapgarh) and Dilip Singh Yadav (Agra-Firozabad) are included in the SP list released on Wednesday. .
Sitting MLC Sunil Singh Sajan has also been made a candidate from Lucknow-Unnao seat.
Rajesh Yadav (Barabanki), Amit Yadav (Pilibhit-Shahjahanpur), Rajneesh Yadav (Gorakhpur-Maharajganj), Shyam Sunder Singh (Jhansi-Jalaun-Lalitpur), Santosh Yadav (Basti-Siddharthnagar), Virendra Shankar Singh (Rae Bareilly) have diamonds in their names. Lal Yadav (Faizabad), Rajesh Kumar Yadav alias Guddu (Azamgarh-Mau) and Maqsoor Ahmed (Rampur-Bareilly) are also included in the list.
Sources said the candidates have been directed to file nominations directly.
