Today on February 1, where the Union Budget of the country was presented, the automakers have also started presenting the sales report of last month. While on one hand the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki has registered a decline in sales in the month of January, while Tata Motors has seen a big jump in sales.
First of all, let’s talk about Maruti Suzuki, the company has sold a total of 154,379 units of vehicles in the month of January, which was 160,752 units in the same month last year. Although this is a very minor drop in sales, the company has attributed this to the lack of supply chain, semiconductor chip, as the main reason.

Maruti Suzuki’s total sales last month includes domestic sales of 132,461 units, sales of 3,981 units to other OEMs and exports of 17,937 units. The automaker also claims that its cumulative sales during April-January of this financial year stood at 1,318,202 units as against 1,126,378 units recorded in the same period last fiscal.
Maruti Suzuki sold 128,924 passenger cars in the domestic market last month, down from 139,002 units recorded in the same month a year ago. Although the company’s exports have increased in January this year, in January last year, the company exported a total of 17,937 units as against 12,445 units in the same month last year. Explain that the company sells its vehicles in the domestic and global market as well as sells models of Baleno and Vitara Brezza to other companies like Toyota, which Toyota sells as Glanza and Urban Cruiser.
Tata sold cars fiercely:
While the month of January has been disappointing for Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors has registered a growth of 26% in its domestic sales in January 2022. The company has sold a total of 72,485 units of vehicles in the domestic market during this period, which was only 57,649 units in the month of January last year. Not only this, the company has registered a growth of 51% in the passenger segment with 40,777 units as compared to 26,978 units in the same month last year.
Coming to commercial vehicles, Tata Motors sold 31,708 units in the domestic market during January 2022, an increase of 3% as compared to 30,671 units sold in January 2021. Apart from this, the export of vehicles in the commercial vehicle segment has also increased to 3,560 units from 2,145 units last year. Thus, Tata Motors’ total sales in January 2022 including domestic and international markets stood at 76,210 units as against 59,866 units during January 2021.
